The last weekend in July, traffic thickens on Main Street, tow-behind trailers turn onto Poplar, and the smell of funnel cake drifts across the park by Friday morning. Das Awkscht Fescht is coming, and for most of us the question isn't whether we're going. It's how to work around it, into it, and through it.
Here is the thing worth noticing this year. The Fescht is enormous, but it isn't the only August weekend the park earns its keep. Between July 31 and August 16, Macungie Memorial Park hosts three separate events that draw crowds from across the Lehigh Valley. For residents, that means a two-and-a-half-week window where the 42 acres at 50 N. Poplar Street stop being a quiet neighborhood green space and start acting like the region's summer living room. Plan around all three, not just the big one, and August gets a lot more enjoyable.

Visitor gates open at 6:00 a.m. each day. Friday and Saturday activities continue until 10:30 p.m., while Sunday wraps up at 4:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and free for ages 15 and younger. This year’s featured category is antique and classic race cars, but the grounds will hold much more than the headline display. Expect cars, trucks, motorcycles, arts and crafts, antiques, a flea market, the Car Corral, outdoor Toy Town, children’s activities, bingo, food and a beer garden.

Saturday, August 1, is the main antique and classic show.
Organizers promote Saturday’s display as featuring more than 800 antique, classic and sports cars. The music schedule is equally full, with the Macungie Band, Lilly Moss & Steel Ponies, BC Combo Band, Decoy Clones and The Buzz appearing throughout the day. Lester Miller Family Hoedown performances are scheduled from late morning into early afternoon.
The evening closes with the Pink Floyd tribute “Inside the Wall” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday makes sense if you want the largest traditional car display and plan to stay for the evening program.
Sunday, August 2, shifts the focus to car clubs.
Sunday brings together 42 antique and special-interest car clubs, with more than 800 vintage vehicles promoted across the individual club shows. The stage schedule includes a patriotic presentation with Dave Fry and guests at 11:30 a.m., Steel Creek Band at 12:45 p.m. and Rick Toole Band at 2:30 p.m.
The Happy Dutchmen German Band will also stroll the grounds Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 2:00 p.m. All entertainment times remain subject to change, so check the official schedule before leaving home.
A simple way to choose: Pick Friday for variety and the Godfrey Daniels anniversary program, Saturday for the main classic-car field and evening tribute concert, or Sunday for the club displays and an earlier finish.
Macungie Memorial Park covers 42 acres, so a Fescht visit can easily become an all-day outing. The park’s shaded lawns offer places to slow down between displays, and the official event information says the playground and swimming pool are open during the weekend. Confirm pool operating conditions before relying on that part of your plan, since current 2026 hours and admission details have not been published in the reviewed sources.
For younger visitors, Kinderland and Crayola Corner add creative activities and performances by entertainers such as magicians, jugglers and ventriloquists. A small fee may apply to the moon bounce.

If you want coffee before heading through the gates, Roasties Coffee is close by at 17 N. Poplar Street. Owner Melinda Schneck grew Roasties from a tent to a teardrop trailer before opening the permanent Macungie café in early 2026. Its posted hours are 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekdays and 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekends. Recheck those hours in case Fescht weekend brings a special schedule.
The scale can make Das Awkscht Fescht feel like a regional attraction that happens to land in Macungie. Its history tells a more local story.
The festival was conceived as a fundraiser after the Greater Macungie Area Swimming Pool opened in 1960. The first Fescht followed in August 1964, displaying 432 registered vehicles from 14 states and Washington, D.C. Nearly 10,000 people attended, and the event raised $5,447.79 for the pool fund.
Those are historical figures rather than current attendance estimates, but they explain why the weekend remains tied so closely to the park. The car show was created to help sustain a community facility. More than six decades later, the 63rd Fescht still brings vehicle displays, music, food and recreation together on the same grounds.
That same relationship between events and community use continues through the rest of August. Once the Fescht tents come down, the park does not simply return to an empty calendar.
The Macungie Farmers Market runs every Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Lumber Street, just off Main Street. The August dates are August 6, 13, 20 and 27.
Local growers and food producers share the market with artists and crafters. After the scale of Fescht weekend, the Thursday market offers a simpler way to return to a familiar community routine.
The next vehicle gathering is a Wheels of Time cruise night at 4:00 p.m. on August 15. It is a more approachable option for anyone who enjoys the cars but does not want to commit to another full festival weekend.
The First Pennsylvania Mustang Club brings its 50th Annual Collector Car Show & Flea Market to the park on August 16. Public show hours are 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with vehicle registration open from 8:00 a.m. to noon.
Despite the host club’s name, the show welcomes all makes, models and years. The schedule includes independent judging, an auto and household flea market, door prizes and a separate class for First Pennsylvania Mustang Club vehicles. Taken together, the Fescht, cruise night and collector show create the busy stretch described at the start of this guide. Residents who use Poplar Street, Main Street or the park regularly can plan errands and quieter park time around those dates rather than being surprised by each new event.
August finishes with the Wheels of Time Rod & Custom Jamboree from Friday, August 28 through Sunday, August 30.
The jamboree opens at 7:00 a.m. daily, with car viewing continuing until sundown. Music runs until 10:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is listed at $15, while children under 16 are admitted free with an adult. Pets, bicycles and skateboards are not permitted in the park during the event.
Participating rods and customs must be street-legal vehicles from 1996 or earlier. Beyond the displays, Wheels of Time supports local charities and scholarship opportunities for area vocational-technical automotive graduates. That community purpose echoes the reason Macungie’s original August car festival began.
You do not need to treat every park event as an all-day commitment. Start by choosing the Fescht day that best matches your interests. Keep August 15 and 16 in mind if you live near the park or regularly use the surrounding streets. Save the final weekend for Wheels of Time if rods and customs are more your style.
Between those dates, the Thursday farmers market restores a familiar weekly pace. That mix of major events and smaller routines is what makes Macungie Memorial Park so central to August in the borough.
