Two of the busiest July destinations in the Lehigh Valley sit less than a mile apart on Center Valley Parkway, and most residents treat them as separate errands. The Labuda Center for the Performing Arts at DeSales University and Promenade Saucon Valley share the same zip code, the same exit off I-78, and the same evening hours. What they do not share, at least in most people's calendars, is a single plan.
They should. This July, the overlap between what is on stage at the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival's 35th anniversary season, running May 27 to August 2 at the Labuda Center for the Performing Arts on the DeSales University campus, and what is happening at the Promenade a mile north, gives Center Valley residents a walkable, low-effort summer they rarely stack together. The thesis of this post is simple. You do not have to drive to SteelStacks, Easton, or downtown Allentown to have a full July evening. You have to drive down your own parkway twice.
The Promenade's summer programming has one anchor worth setting a recurring reminder for. The patio at Promenade Saucon Valley hosts free live music every Wednesday in June, July, and August from 5 to 7 p.m. The Patio sits near the fire pit gathering area, adjacent to the Town Square with its interactive pop-jet fountain presented by Lehigh Valley Health Network, surrounded by amphitheater style seating near Starbucks, which means the same trip works for adults who want a set of live music and kids who want to run through water in their bathing suits.
The reason to actually go this July, rather than treating it as background noise, is that the Promenade has quietly cycled through more new tenants in the past eighteen months than any single stretch since it opened. The Jane Austen show closes July 12, and an additional performance was added on Wednesday, July 8 at 2:00 p.m. due to demand. That is the show most likely to sell out before you check. It runs 80 minutes with three actors and no intermission, which makes it a viable option even on a weeknight.
The Main Stage flips between Romeo and Juliet and Moriarty in the same week starting July 16. If you buy tickets in advance, check the specific date on your ticket rather than trusting muscle memory about what is running. This is the rotating-repertory quirk that catches locals who assume a Thursday and a Saturday are the same show.
Coriolanus opens July 22 as an "Extreme Shakespeare" production. That format is not a stunt. It is a rehearsal-compressed staging that reduces prep time and puts pressure on the cast, and it stars Broadway veteran Greg Wood, a company member for 27 seasons with PSF. If you have taken the Festival for granted, this is the show that reminds you what is on your doorstep.
The scale is the last piece of context that gets lost. PSF draws up to 50,000 patrons annually from over thirty states, and has welcomed more than a million patrons since its founding in 1992. It is easier to get a seat there than at most touring productions in Philadelphia or New York, and the drive is measured in minutes.

Here is the plan most residents never build. On a Wednesday in July, arrive at the Promenade around 5. Catch the first hour of the Patio concert. Walk the loop past the new Color Me Mine, The Hive, Relux, and whichever section of Wonder's frontage is up by the time you read this. Grab something quick from one of the anchor restaurants or, once it opens, cross-order from Wonder's roster. Then drive 90 seconds south to Labuda for a 7:30 curtain.
The pairing works because both venues are calibrated for the same audience on the same night. Both are outdoors-adjacent. Both are family-friendly through 8 p.m. and adult-friendly after. Both are close enough that a rain delay at one is not a wasted evening at the other. Neither requires the parking gauntlet of an ArtsQuest weekend or the traffic pattern of a downtown event. If you have out-of-town guests staying with you in Center Valley, Upper Saucon, or the southern Lehigh corridor, this is the itinerary that shows them why you live here without requiring you to leave your zip code.
The larger point is that residents of Center Valley tend to describe their neighborhood by what it lacks. It is not Bethlehem's historic core. It is not Easton's Thursday-through-Saturday square. What it has instead is a mile-long parkway with a nationally recognized professional theater at one end and a lifestyle center with active weekly programming at the other, and no one is fighting you for a parking spot at either. In July, that is enough for a full summer.
